每年二月的第一个周末，一个美国文化的重磅事件都会如期上演，那就是“超级碗”。或许你不知道，美国电视史上收视率最高的五个节目全部都是超级碗直播；广告商不惜花费500万美元，只为在超级碗投放30秒的广告；全美各地更是有无数粉丝自发举办大大小小的观赛派对；球迷在超级碗中投注的金额也超过了其他任何比赛；美国人在超级碗周日消费的食物量也达到全年第二高，仅次于感恩节，包括2800万磅薯片、12.5亿个鸡翅、以及800万磅的鳄梨酱。美式足球对于美国文化的意义当然不只是一场比赛这么简单，和很多其他体育项目一样，美式足球促进了人们有关深层文化和社会问题的反思和对话。2月13日，上海美国中心请到了多位美领馆外交官和美式足球爱好者来和大家介绍这项比赛的规则、分享第53届超级碗最精彩的瞬间和最火的广告、以及他们对于超级碗的商业、娱乐、文化意义的理解。

The first weekend of every February marks a major American cultural event: the Super Bowl. Did you know: the five most-watched American television programs in history have all been Super Bowl broadcasts; advertisers pay $5 million for thirty seconds of airtime; across the country tens of thousands of football-viewing parties bring together fans and friends to watch the game; more money is bet on the Super Bowl than on any other event; Americans consume more food on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year except Thanksgiving, including an estimated 28 million pounds of potato chips, 1.25 billion chicken wings, and eight million pounds of guacamole. Beyond the game, football is another example of sports in America prompting reflection and conversation that touch on deep cultural and social issues. On February 13th, join us at the Shanghai American Center to hear a panel of U.S. Foreign Service Officers and football enthusiasts explain the basics of the sport, share the most talked-about plays and ads of Super Bowl 53, and offer their personal insights on the commerce, conviviality, and cultural significance of Super Bowl Sunday.
